India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has joined Yorkshire for the remainder of the County Championship in England, the English club announced on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old Gaikwad will also be in contention to feature for Yorkshire in the One-Day Cup during the stint. Gaikwad is expected to join the Yorkshire squad ahead of the County Championship game against Surrey at Scarborough next month.
The right-handed batter has been out of action since April 8 after suffering a fractured elbow while leading Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 season.
Gaikwad said, “I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire.
“I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware.”
Recovering from the injury, Gaikwad was named in the India A squad for the England tour. However, the Maharashtra batter was benched for both matches against the England Lions.
Ruturaj Gaikwad First-Class record
Despite his impressive white-ball aggregates, Gaikwad has not had the best of runs in First-Class cricket, averaging 41.77 for 2632 runs in 38 matches. Gaikwad had a torrid run during the India A tour to Australia last year, scoring only 20 runs in four outings.

In the 2024-25 domestic season in India, Gaikwad tallied 571 runs in 12 innings with a solitary century.
“I’m extremely pleased to see Ruturaj sign with us for the second half of the season. He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play,” said Yorkshire coach Anthony McGrath.
“Ruturaj will give us some extra solidity in our batting line-up whilst having that ability to score quick runs when required. He’s an exciting talent and one I know is highly rated across the game,” he added.
